Why daily exposure to sunlight is good for your health

Exposure to sunlight helps a person improve his health because the ultraviolet rays convert skin oil into Vitamin D. When the human body is exposed to sunlight, the brain releases a hormone called serotonin. This hormone is responsible for boosting mood that can help humans remain focused.

Sunlight is essential for human health and well-being. The health benefits of sunlight include generating the production of vitamin D, supporting bone health, lowering blood pressure, preventing disease, and promoting good mental health.

Midday, especially during summer, is the best time to get sunlight. At noon, the sun is at its highest point, and its UVB rays are most intense. That means you need less time in the sun to make sufficient vitamin D ( 5 ). Many studies also show that the body is most efficient at making vitamin D at noon ( 6 , 7

In general, target about 10 to 20 minutes of exposure on non-sunscreened skin every day. Holick notes that it’s much better to have a small amount of sun time daily rather than a sun binge on a single day, which might cause sunburn.

Morning light also seems to help people keep the fat off. You need 20 to 30 minutes between 8 a.m. and noon to make a difference, but the earlier you get it, the better it seems to work. Scientists think the sun’s rays may shrink fat cells below your skin’s surface
